Reliable plumbing contractors will fix your water heater or advise you itr it's time to install a new one.

The water heater is probably the appliance leas thought about in the home - that is...until it fails!  And when water heaters fail, they do so in spectacular fashion.  A homeowner is left with a nasty  mess that can damage drywall and flooring.  Three of every four water heaters fail due to a tank busting or leaking 30 to 80 gallons of rusty water - depending on tank size - in an unfortunate homeowner's attic or garage.  If you experience an issue with your water heater, it may be time to contact a reliable plumbing contractor who can fix the appliance or advise you on whether it is time to install a new one.

When It Is Time to Repair Your Water Heater

Obiviously, the most noticeable indicator of a water heater problem will be the lack of warm water coming from your kitchen or bathroom faucets.  However, there can be other warning signs that you may see before it reaches this point.  Check for these signs to know when it is time to repair your water heater:

  • Your water temperature is irregular.  If you take a shower and notice that the water changes from cool to warm several times, the water heater may not be very efficient.
  • The tank makes strange noises.  As the water heater ages, it may start making odd noises.  Banging or cracking noises may indicate a buildup of mineral deposits inside the tank of the water heater.  This will need to be cleaned out so the appliance can work properly again.
  • Water comes out discolored.  Brown or reddish hot water may mean that your water heater is rusting out.  The tank will need to be cleaned in this case as well.
  • Water is leaking out of the water heater tank.  The issue should be repaired immediately, as water can leak out and corrode the outside of the tank or cause electrical hazards.

***If your water heater is between 10 to 15 years old, the plumber may recommend a total replacement rather then a repair.***

Choosing Tankless or Traditional Water Heaters

Replacing a water heater means making a choice between the newer tankless water heaters or sticking with the tradtional type.  Tankless water heaters are smaller and can last longer, but they may not be the best choice if you have a larger family and everyone needs to shower in the mornings.  There are three factors to consider when choosing between Tankless or Traditional Water Heaters.  These are:

  1. Convenience
  2. Energy Use
  3. Cost
